All Things SAO PAULO – 27th Oct

We are all very excited about this cruise holiday.  Not only do you sail on a wonderful 5* cruise ship,  but a chance to visit Buenos Aires, visit spectacular Iguazzu Falls and samba in the streets of Rio during the famous Carnival – all in one trip!

Flying to Buenos Aires on the 25th February, you will be met and transferred to your downtown hotel for a 2 night stay.  This sophisticated Argentine jewel is the most European of South American capitals. Boulevards here are broader even than those in Paris. Nightlife beats to the pulse of the Tango and Bossa Nova. Glamorous boutiques invite those looking for that special gift (leather is especially good value), while restaurants sizzle to the sound of succulent steaks.  During your time in this mesmerizing city you will enjoy a half day sightseeing tour and an evening at one of the top Tango Shows, including dinner.

You then embark the beautiful Celebrity Eclipse for a cruise up the South America coast line.   First up is Montevideo.  Founded by the Spanish in 1720, the heart of Uruguay’s capital is home to some fine colonial architecture with beautiful 19th century houses and squares. Along the Rambla, the waterfront drive that stretches for 12 miles, you’ll discover sun-kissed beaches and sculpture-filled parks. Let yourself be tempted by several casinos, or stylish boutiques where suedes and amethysts are hard to resist.

There can be few more stunning sights than arriving in Brazil’s unofficial capital by sea. Take a people-watching stroll along the golden beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema. Ride a cable car high above the city and take in the twin landmarks of Sugar Loaf Mountain and Corcovado with its giant statue of Christ the Redeemer. Then seek out unique gifts with a difference as you shop the city streets that seem to ring with the rhythm of a samba.   This arrival into Rio has an added twist, as you arrive right in the heart of the worlds biggest party – Carnivale!  What a time to be in Rio, and we can help arrange tickets to this spectacular event if you want to immerse yourself in this amazing festival.

Rio Carnival

After leaving Rio, you need to calm down a bit, and the Brazilian port of Buzios is perfect for slowing down and relaxing.  This peninsula beach resort, made popular in the 1960s by Brigitte Bardot, boasts more than 20 beaches, with those to the west experiencing calmer water than the east-facing Praia’s, which are ideal for surfers and windsurfers. Boating, scuba diving and surfing are the most popular activities here, with excellent schools for novices wishing to learn. When the sun dips, enjoy delicious, fresh seafood at one of the popular pay-by-the-kilo restaurants before drinking and dancing the night away at one of the town’s popular bars or nightclubs.

After arriving in Santos, you have the opportunity to visit today’s highlighted city – Sao Paulo.  As one of the largest cities in the world, there’s much to discover on a cruise to Sao Paulo. Located about 34 miles from Port of Santos, it’s a bustling metropolis with a melting-pot of cultural influences, the largest Japanese population outside of Japan, Italian, Arab, German, and many more call this city home. Head to Avenida Paulista in the heart of town and explore the Museum of Art of Sao Paulo which houses an impressive collection of Western art in Latin America by many important artists, including Rembrandt, Picasso, Renoir, Degas, and well-known Brazilian artists. Boasting some of the best restaurants in all of Brazil to street cart vendors serving up delicious pasteis, the cuisine of Sao Paulo is a deliciously colorful and lively experience to savor. Stroll Rue 25 de Marco or Mercado Municipal de Sao Paulo for authentic Paulista mementos and keepsakes.

Two days at sea to exchange your memories with fellow passengers and you arrive back into Buenos Aires.  You are transferred back to the airport, but your not flying home yet.  A short flight up to the Argentinian and Brazilian border and a bucket list destination – Iguzzu Falls.  One of the worlds most awe-inspiring sights, and they are simple spectacular.  You will spend two days in Iguzzu, which will include a tour, visiting both the Argentinian and Brazilian sides to the falls.

Finally its time to return back to Australia.
