All Things COASTAL – 2nd December

There are so many amazing sights around the world, that we sometime forget what an amazing country we have right here on our doorstep!  A trip around the Great Southern Land is a must have on your bucket list, and its not limited to just a road trip, why not a river cruise followed by a great train journey…..

Your holidays starts in Adelaide, the ”City of Churches” as you are transferred from Adelaide airport to the perfectly located Hilton Hotel.  Overlooking Victoria Park the Hilton is located right in the heart of the city.  The following morning you will enjoy a half day sightseeing tour of Adelaide.

The following morning you are transferred to Mannum, SA to embark the beautiful Murray Princess.  The Murray Princess is a true inland paddlewheeler built for the Murray River, with a character and charm of yesteryear. It is the largest inland paddlewheeler in the southern hemisphere. Catering for just 120 passengers, she brings the unique advantages of small ship cruising to the remarkable setting of Australia’s outback.  Don’t be fooled by most modern-day imitation paddlewheelers where the paddle is often on the side and just for show. The PS Murray Princess is an authentic paddlewheeler which is propelled by its massive stern wheel. The on board atmosphere is relaxed and informal by style. The lounge features a majestic view of the paddlewheel in action through the two story viewing window. Upper and lower lounge areas are accessed by the classic brass and mahogany style spiral staircase.  Over the next 3 nights you’ll discover the beautiful lower riverlands, between Walker Flat and Murray Bridge aboard the Murray Princess. You’ll cruise through spectacular riverlands and enjoy the great variety of flora and fauna. You’ll take a nature walk, get up close to the river birdlife on board the ‘Dragon-Fly’ flat-bottomed boat, visit the township of Murray Bridge and learn about the food and wine of this famous region.  All meals and selected land excursions are included.  After you disembark Murray Princess you are transferred back to Adelaide for another night at the Hilton Hotel

After a relaxing night in your hotel you are transferred to the rail station and on to the famous Indian Pacific train.  Stepping aboard the mighty Indian Pacific, you’ll feel a great sense of anticipation as this unforgettable Australian adventure begins to unfold.

Over lunch, watch as pastures dissolve into tough mallee scrub on approach to Broken Hill. Known as the Silver City, Broken Hill is one of Australia’s legendary Outback bases defined by its wide streets, country pubs and ties with the Royal Flying Doctors Service and School of the Air. Here, you can visit the late Pro Hart’s art studio or head for the Miners’ Memorial where the stark reality of working in Broken Hill’s mines over the ages is writ large. The striking architectural edifice and spectacular view over the city add emotional weight to the list of more than 800 miners who lost their lives on the job.   Winding your way through the magnificent Blue Mountains provides ample opportunity to kick back and reflect upon this unforgettable journey, through some of the most striking landscapes on Earth.  Your 1 night, 2 day journey on board the Indian Pacific includes your own en quite Gold Class sleeper cabin, all meals and drinks and off train excursions to both Broken Hill and the Blue Mountains.
