All Things ALICE – 9th June

It was all about Girl’s names on this weeks Cruise & Travel Show, and with a focus on ALICE Springs as the featured destination.  But considering the nearest beach is 1,500km from Alice Springs, the chances of seeing a cruise ship is pretty slim!

But keeping with the theme of the show we have a cruise deal of the week that features a port of call with a girls name – and its one of the most beautiful cities in the world…..Florence!

On the 3rd November you will fly to Nice.  On arrival you will be met and transferred the short distance from Nice to Monte Carlo.  Awaiting you is 2 nights at the Fairmont Hotel Monte Carlo.  The Fairmont Monte Carlo hotel is located in the heart of the Principality of Monaco in between the Mediterranean Sea and the legendary Monte-Carlo Casino.  Breakfast is included for your stay and you have time to explore one of the most fashionable cities in the world.

Monte Carlo, Monaco

After your stay at the Fairmont Hotel you are again provided with a transfer to take you to your luxurious 6 star floating home for the next 7 days – the Regent Seven Seas Voyager.   The 700-guest Seven Seas Voyager is an all-suite, all-balcony ship and the second to feature a restaurant operated by Le Cordon Bleu of Paris. There are four main dining venues, surprising for a ship of her size. The Voyager also features some of the highest space and service ratios at sea, and her suites are the largest “lead-in” suites in the industry.   Not only is the Regent Seven Seas Voyager all suite and all balcony, but it is all inclusive also – so you will receive FREE WIFI, FREE 24 HOUR ROOM SERVICE, FREE GRATUITIES, FREE OPEN BAR, FREE IN SUITE MINI BAR (replenished daily), FREE SPECIALITY DINING…….AND FREE UNLIMITED SHORE EXCURSIONS!  It really is the most all-inclusive experience!

Regent Seven Seas Voyager

After sailing from Monte Carlo your first port of all is Livorno in Italy.  Located in the center of Tuscany, Livorno is the gateway to the glory of Renaissance Florence and Pisa. From the 13th to 16th centuries, this era of creative freedom encouraged the genius of Dante, Donatello, Michelangelo, Giotto, Botticelli, da Vinci, and Machiavelli to create some of the world’s most noted masterpieces. Elegant Florence offers the Galleria dell’Accademia, with its iconic masterpiece, Michelangelo’s David. The Uffizi is home to the most renowned art gallery in Italy, with representative works by the titan’s of Renaissance art.  Nearby Siena captures the spirit of Medieval Italy and Lucca offers you the memorable chance to bicycle through the fragrant Tuscan countryside.

The Colosseum in Rome, Italy

Arriving into the coastal port of Civitavecchia, Regent Seven Seas Voyages opens up the opportunity to visit ”The Eternal City”” of Rome.  Whether enjoying the street performers at the Spanish Steps and people-watching over a fine glass of wine in colorful Trastevere, or taking in the historical and architectural glory that is Rome, you are spoiled for choice in this truly Eternal City. St. Peter’s Basilica is a full-day outing, featuring the Sistine Chapel and panoramic city vistas for those willing to climb to the top of the dome. Other landmarks not to miss include the renowned Trevi Fountain, the Coliseum, and Aventine Hill, which provides you with a grand view of the imposing remains of the Imperial Palaces and the Circus Maximus, of Ben Hur fame.

One last Italian experience as you walk down the gangway an into Naples.  Spend a day exploring the fabulous ruins of ancient Pompeii and Herculaneum with their stunning temples, frescoes and mosaics. Or you may choose to explore fascinating Naples and its famed museums, visit charming Sorrento or take a boat trip to the beautiful Isle of Capri – all included in your free shore excursions.

Pompeii and Sorrento

After a relaxing day at seas you’ll be waving ”Ciao” to Italy, and “Salut” to France as you arrive in Marseilles, the gateway to Provence.  Located in southeastern France, today’s Marseille is a far cry from the sleepy villages it once inspired in Cézanne’s paintings. With more than a million people, the city remains the cosmopolitan and exuberant capital of southern Europe, with its picturesque Old Quarter, lively sidewalk cafes and shops, and Romanesque-Byzantine Notre Dame de la Garde Basilica, overlooking the steep cliffs and offering a bird’s eye view of the city’s colourful “quartiers” stretching down toward the sea.  In addition to Marseilles, Regent Seven Seas offers many opportunities to explore the local Provencal towns and villages such as Castellet, St Remy de Provence, Avignon and Arles.

The remainder of the cruise has a Spanish taste to it, arriving firstly in the Balearic Islands, and a day in Palma de Mallorca.   Mallorca, also known as Majorca, is a wind-swept island with steep jagged cliffs and olive groves more than a thousand years old. Mallorca is an island of contrasts. To the south is a busy tourist area with hotels, bars, restaurants, shopping and dazzling night life. To the north are rocky valleys, sleepy villages shrouded in bougainvillea, and breathtaking views. Palma is dominated by the breathtaking Gothic Cathedral, located high above the waterfront on the site of a former mosque.

Finally the cruise comes to a conclusion in the stunning city of Barcelona.  One of Europe’s most visually stunning cities, Barcelona balances the medieval intimacy of its Gothic Quarter with the grace and distinction of the wide boulevards in the Moderniste Eixample. It was the home of architect Antoni Gaudí, whose Sagrada Familia Cathedral, Park Güell and Casa Milà are the most profound statements of Modernisme. View the splendid works at the Picasso Museum and the Miro Foundation, or discover Barcelona’s passionate ambiance at a flamenco show.  You will disembark the Regent Seven Seas Voyager and once again a transfer awaits to whisk you off to the stunning Grand Hotel Central, located in the heart of the famous Gothic Quarter.  A two night stay inclusive of breakfast will give you ample time to enjoy the Catalan Capital before you make your way home to Australia.

As usual, we are able to tailor-make your travel around the cruise, so if you would like to stay longer, visit another part of Europe or arrange a stopover during your journey we can help you make those arrangements.
