Experience this stunning land of plenty
Romantic Sri Lanka is a unique island nation in South Asia.
Endless beaches, timeless ruins, welcoming people, oodles of elephants,
cheap prices and fun trains – Sri Lanka is pretty irresistible!
Lapped by the Indian Ocean, it has maritime borders
with India to the north, and the Maldives to the south.
The island is separated from India by the Gulf of Mannar and the Palk Strait.
A chain of limestone shoals, called Adam’s Bridge, lie between India and Sri Lanka.
They are as shallow as a metre at times, and hinder navigation.
Even though it’s small, Sri Lanka (a Spice Island) has a fascinating history,
and is jam-packed with exciting experiences.
Population is just under 22 million, in an area smaller than Tasmania!
The official capital is Jayawardenepura Kotte, a satellite city of Colombo.
This is a country on the move, as more and more people discover
and appreciate its undeniable charms.
