All Things STRANGE – 7th October

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR DETAILS ON OUR MONGOLIA SMALL GROUP TOUR – CLICK HERE!

Today’s National Cruise & Travel Show highlighted some of the strange town names there are around the world, and there are plenty!

This weeks Cruise Deal takes us to an American state that contains the towns of ”Hoonah”, ”Tanana”, ”Deadhorse”, ”Nenana” and the famous settlement of ”Chicken”……ALASKA!

On the 10th June you fly to beautiful Vancouver in British Colombia, Canada and enjoy two nights at the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel in the heart of the city.  Explore Gas-Town, Grouse Mountain, Stanley Park and the Lion’s Gate Bridge – all iconic sights of this wonderful city.

Vancouver, BC

You then embark the Regatta of Oceania Cruises.  Regatta is a 5* small luxury ship, holding just over 600 passengers – being this size allows Regatta to dock in Alaskan towns that the larger ships find too difficult.  Hungry?  Don’t worry, as no cruise line spends more on food per passenger than any other cruise lines, so you will dine well on your cruise!

After a picturesque day cruising the Inside Passage, you arrive in Ketchikan.  This southern-most Alaskan port city is  known as Alaska’s First City because it was the first major community travelers came to heading north. Founded as a fishing camp, Ketchikan is built on steep hillsides and is billed as the salmon capital of the world. A quaint village, the town is just three miles long and three blocks wide.  Walk the streets of Creek Street, or take a tour out to the Misty Fjords.

A day scenic cruising the spectacular Tracy Arm Fjord & Sawyer Glacier is next.  Listen as the glaciers pop and fizzle, and wait for the ice to break away in a thunderous noise.  Look out for wildlife, and these waters are a paradise for the Humpback Whale.

Alaska was once a Russian colony, with its capital city being New Archangel.  It was here in 1867 that Russia sold Alaska to the United States of America for a measly two cents an acre.  The city was renamed Sitka – and that is your next port of call.  Enjoy walking the streets of the city, passing the Russian onion-domed St Michael’s Cathedral.  Sitka is located on Baranof Island, home to more Bald Eagles than the lower 48 states of America combined, so look out for them perched in the trees!

You cross back into Canada for a call into Prince Rupert, BC.  This gives you more wonderful opportunities to spot the wide variety of wildlife, including whales, dolphin, eagles and if your lucky, a bear or two.

A day at sea to relax from your sightseeing is all yours as you once again enjoy the hospitality of Oceania Cruise on board the Regatta, before you arrive back in the USA and your disembarkation port of Seattle, Washington.

Two nights at the 5* Mayflower Hotel is provided, to give you time to see Seattle.  Head out to the Boeing Factory, view Mount Rainier or climb the Space Needle – the choice is yours.
