All Things FRENCH – 24th February

In today’s Cruise & Travel Show Greg and Gary swept us away to the beautiful city of Biarritz, France located on the Bay of Biscay, and only 18km from the Spanish border.  Despite being located on the coast, it is rarely visited by cruise ships.   So for this weeks Cruise Deal we are leaving Biarritz behind, but we are staying in a French mood!  An what can I say about this weeks deal….C’est Magnifique!!!

On the 21st November, you will fly from Australia to Milan, and then be transferred to the famous port of Genoa, Italy.  When you arrive you will meet your floating home for the next 17 days, the stunning MSC Preziosa.

Sailing out of Genoa, the first few days of your cruise is in the Mediterranean.  Your first port of call continues the shows theme of France, with a call into Marseilles.  Marseille, the largest port in the Meditterranean and the second largest city in France, serves as your gateway to the lush fertile region of Provence and all its cultural contributions to gastronomic excellence, Impressionistic art, and ancient architecture.

One of the most historic cities in Europe is next as you cross the border into Spain, and in to the city of Barcelona.  During your day in the capital of Catalonia, and you’ll discover the ornately wrought works of Antonio Gaudi. A local architect, whose works culminate in the surrealistic spires of the yet to be finished Sagrada Familia. Take a stroll down the colourful Ramblas. Explore the Gothic Quarter. Ride a cable car to the summit of Montjuic. Or sample local wines and authentic tapas as you watch the hustle and bustle of daily life pass you by.

You’re not done with Spain yet, and you will then enjoy a day in Malaga.  Malaga is famous for its art galleries Museo Picasso, Malaga Fine arts museum, the Roman theatre and the  On the city outskirts you have the Alhambra Gardens and the charming resorts of Marbella and Puerto Banus

Sailing through the Strait of Gibraltar and out to the Atlantic Ocean you go.  But before the big crossing you taste more Spanish sunshine with a day in the Canary Islands.   Santa Cruz is home to a kaleidoscope of brightly painted buildings, sophisticated boutiques, excellent museums and a city park that is a a tropical oasis of birdsong, fountains and greenery.

Leaving Europe behind you, you have 5 days at sea crossing the Atlantic Ocean.  Ample time to enjoy the many facilities of the MSC Preziosa.  Don’t miss the real stone piazza, complete with sweeping Swarovski staircases or the Infinity Pool.  The 15 bars, lounges and restaurants on the MSC Preziosa will keep you busy till the early hours of the day!

Before you know it, you arrive in the wonderful Caribbean Islands, and the first island is a classic – Barbados.  The charming island of Barbados, with its capital Bridgetown retains a distinctive British Flavour. Sprawling plantations with beautiful mansions, towering lighthouses and historic towns take you back in time. Along the coast, pristine waters invite you to go snorkeling or scuba diving or relax on soft sands with a local specialty in hand.

With 365 beaches, you could visit a different one every day in Antigua, but you only have the single day there, so choose carefully!  Stunning beaches, Mount Obama, St. John’s Cathedral are all there to explore during your day on this picturesque island.

A tropical climate tempered by Caribbean breezes prevails on St Kitts and her sister island, Nevis. From Basseterre, it’s easy to explore old sugar plantations and Brimstone Fortress—the Gibraltar of the West Indies. Snorkeling and an ATV ride on the slopes of Mount Liamuiga are available for the more adventurous.

One last post before you finish your cruise, and its the island of St. Maarten.  This island is so beautiful that two nations decided to share it – the Dutch to the North and the French to the South. Both have coexisted for over 350 years, the longest of any two bordering nations. Whether you choose to stay in Dutch Phillipsburg or head for the French capital of Marigot, you’ll enjoy the cultural flavors, beautiful beaches and excellent shopping everywhere.

Your cruise comes to an end in another location with a French link.  On the island of Martinique, the MSC Preziosa will dock in the port of Port du France.  Its here that you wave goodbye to your ship, and begin the log journey home to Australia.  It is a long trip, so to break it up, we provide a nights hotel stay in Miami en route.
